Local attractions

Shrewsbury is an historic market town, located within the loop of the River Severn, the town centre having a largely unaltered medieval theme. The town features over 660 historic listed buildings, including several examples of timber framing from the 15th and 16th century.

The local Quarry park is only a short walk away, with award-winning gardens and scenic walks along the riverside to the far end of the town. The hotel looks over to the River Severn, where there are many places to relax and explore, including the Sabrina boat trip.

Shrewsbury Castle, a red sandstone castle fortification, and Shrewsbury Abbey, a former Benedictine monastery, were founded in 1074 and 1083, respectively, by the Norman Earl of Shrewsbury, Roger de Montgomery. Charles Darwin was born in The Mount, in the Frankwell area of Shrewsbury.

There are museums, churches, stunning parks and walks. There is also a leisure centre a five-minute walk away, an open-top tour bus to Ironbridge – through Shrewsbury – and unique, quirky little shops, as well as main chain stores, many cafés/bistros spread along the cobbled streets and lively nightlife. Shrewsbury is a perfect location for exploring.
