The Duke of Wellington, Minehead

Minehead, twinned with Saint-Berthevin in France, is a coastal town lying on the south side of the Bristol Channel and in close proximity to Exmoor National Park.

The town offers a variety of shops and restaurants to suit all tastes. You can find the South West Coast Path past the small harbour and a lovely walk up the side of North Hill.

Locally, there are coarse fishing sites and the fantastic steam railway just a few minutes away.

We are a hotel of 29 en suite rooms, based at the top of Minehead town centre, close to the beach and shops.

Each room offers unlimited free Wi-Fi, hairdryer, tea- and coffee-making facilities, iron/ironing board and Freeview television. We have a stair lift available to the first floor only, for anyone with accessibility needs.

Local attractions

West Somerset Railway opened in 1874 and is popular with all steam train enthusiasts. Dunster Castle lies up on a steep hill, called the Tor, and was a former motte-and-bailey castle. The castle is now run by the National Trust, and you can visit the castle and grounds. The South West Coast Path is the nation’s longest countryside walking trail.

Local transport

Buses run every 30 minutes to Taunton. There is an open-top bus to Lynton, Lynmouth and Ilfracombe which passes through the popular village of Porlock. There is a local taxi rank across from the hotel.

Parking

We have no car park on site, but there are some pay-and-display car parks close to the hotel, together with some free street parking during 5pm–9am.

Directions

The main bus and train station is at Taunton, from where you would need to catch the number 28 bus to Minehead. When you arrive in Minehead, get off at Clathers. Across the road to the right, you will see Wellington Square and the hotel is located here.
