A survey by leading foodservice and global coffee trends consultants, Allegra Strategies, has rated Wetherspoon as the leading coffee shop in terms of speed of service, food choice, value for money and low prices. The company had more number one placings than any other company, including Pret A Manger, Starbucks, Caffe Nero and McDonalds.
Wetherspoon also came third in the following categories; atmosphere, friendly service and convenient location. It was also in the top ten for coffee quality, food quality and ethical practices. Wetherspoon was the only pub company named in the top ten.
The ‘Allegra Project Cafe 2016’ report highlighted a range of factors that, according to coffee shop visitors, constitute success.
Wetherspoon’s chief executive John Hutson said: “We are very pleased with the findings of this independent report.
“Wetherspoon is very much a pub company which also serves excellent Lavazza coffee in each of its pubs across the UK.
“To be ahead of Starbucks, Costa Coffee, Caffe Nero, Pret A Manger and many others is testament to the fact that, like our beer, our coffee is first class.
“We serve more than 50 million cups of Lavazza coffee annually and we have proven that our pubs are the perfect place to enjoy a great cup of coffee throughout the day.”
